Last year, we purchased a set of non-standard customized cryogenic STM (scanning tunneling microscope) system, to replace the STM part of our existing STM-MBE system. This LT-STM system can reach an operating temperature of less than 10K, it has a large scanning range of 1.5 × 1.5 × 0.5 μm at low temperatures, and can obtain clear atomic images. This customized system is well compatible with our existing MBE system, and also has in-situ evaporation ports for in-situ deposition or doping of samples.
In 2017, we purchased tip etching instrument, K-cell evaporator and controller from ACME, and have been using it till now. The K-cell evaporator is installed on the STM-MBE system, which is mainly used to evaporate organic molecular materials. In the past few years, the evaporator has been working stably without any quality problems, and the samples we got with it are uniform. The tip etching instrument is mainly used to prepare tungsten tips. It’s ben working well and we etched many high-quality tips with it.

Our group mainly studies low-dimensional superconducting and topological materials. Recently, we purchased 5 sets of K-cell evaporators and matching temperature controllers from ACME (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd., and we’ve installed them on a STM-MBE system. In the process of purchasing, assembling and testing these evaporators, the ACME team provided us with professional advice and technical support, which helped us a lot. Now these effusion cells are mainly used for evaporating materials like Fe, Te, Pb, Se, etc. They work well, the beam flux is stable, high-quality thin film samples can be obtained.


I have purchased E-beam and K-Cell evaporators produced by ACME team, as well as the matching controllers. The evaporators are installed on our UHV STM-MBE-LEED system. The E-beam evaporator is mainly used for evaporating Si, Ge, C etc., and the K-Cell evaporator (Effusion Cell) for Se, Te etc. The evaporators and controllers produced by ACME are easy to operate and have highly stable performance. Especially the K-Cell evaporator can be installed face down, which is very suitable for evaporating certain characteristic materials, that is, 1/3 of the boiling point of the material is less than its melting point. Our research interest is in atomically-precise design of new catalytic materials using a combined wet-chemistry and atomic layer deposition (ALD) method. Because the standard commercial ALD system is difficult to meet my experimental needs, ACME (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd. customized an atomic layer deposition system according to our needs, and the system was officially put into operation in March 2019. Our research is based on synchrotron radiation photoelectron spectroscopy/absorption spectroscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy techniques to carry out the fine characterization and physical property correlation of the surface and interface electronic structure and atomic structure of low-dimensional material.
